# OSR Wiki

# Welcome!

The OSR Wiki is a free repository of knowledge about [Open Source Strokers](https://osr.wiki/shelves/strokers) as originally conceived by [TempestMAx](https://patreon.com/tempestvr "Patreon of TempestMAx").

It is maintained and hosted by a community of volunteers using a simple platform called [Bookstack](https://www.bookstackapp.com/). Information about strokers and related topics are organized into collections called *Books*. Just like normal books, OSR Wiki books contain *Chapters* and *Pages*. Books may also be placed onto *Shelves*.

You are currently reading the *Welcome!* page of the [OSR Wiki](https://osr.wiki/books/osr-wiki) book, which is on the [Community](https://osr.wiki/shelves/community) shelf.

A list of all shelves is available [here.](https://osr.wiki/shelves) You can view all books irrespective of shelf [here.](https://osr.wiki/books)

All content on this site can be searched using the search box in the header. If you would like to contribute content please read the [Guidelines for Contributing](https://osr.wiki/books/osr-wiki/page/guidelines-for-contributing) page.

Happy Stroking! 💙

# Guidelines for Contributing

*Anyone* can edit or create content on the OSR Wiki, with some restrictions:

1. You must [register](https://osr.wiki/register "Link to the Registration Page") and verify your account with a valid email address.
2. You may only *delete* content that you have created.
3. Shelves can only be created by users with special permissions (given to select individuals).
4. If you vandalize or repeatedly share \*inappropriate content you may be banned.

##### Philosophy &amp; Guidelines

The guidelines for the OSR Wiki are influenced by the philosophies of Wikipedia, such as the [Five Pillars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Five_pillars) and the [Wiki Way:](https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_wiki_way)

- Write from a **neutral point of view**.
- Treat editors with **respect** and **civility**.
- Be **clear.**
- Be as **concise as possible**, especially with page titles (titles become part of the url for a document).
- **Be aware of the [curse of knowledge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_of_knowledge).** Make as few assumptions about the experience of your audience as possible. The person reading your page may be a complete beginner.
- Link to **relevant sources** (but avoid *over* linking).

When you share content on the OSR Wiki you are freely licensing that work *to the public*. No editor owns an article and any contributions may be mercilessly edited and redistributed.

##### Examples of Inappropriate Content

Here is a non exhaustive list of content that may be deemed "inappropriate".

- Copy-written works that you don't have the rights to.
- Content completely unrelated to Open Source Multi-Axis Strokers.
- Shameless self-promotion.
- Spam.
- Anything illegal.
- Nudity or sexually explicit images of actual humans (links to external sites are OK in context).
- Any content of the original creator [TempestMAx](https://www.patreon.com/tempestvr) that is **not public** (i.e. violates the below quote).

Quote from [TempestMAx](https://www.patreon.com/tempestvr)*: <span style="color: rgb(35, 111, 161);">"**Hey all. I am generally in favour of anything that encourages or supports people who want to get into this hobby. My only concern is of course that my paywalled content is my main livelihood these days. My position is therefore that as far as I'm concerned you are welcome to share any content or media of mine that's in a public patreon post or in one of the "discussion channels" on discord. Likewise any of the exchanges, apart from the #remixes-exchange. ... I also don't mind people writing assembly guides and tips as long as they aren't sharing my original content. So using their own words, photographs, etc."**</span>*
